The last show in 2014 for my Cortina was part of the MK1 Cortina owner’s club stand at the classic show held in the NEC complex. In August when I work out the cars for the stand it was going to be 5, but one pulled out which I then had to get a reserve sorted, however on the set up day we lost another with major engine problems so the stand was re jigged for 4 cars. They were a red estate, a gold striped GT, a blue modified super and my own green deluxe a good mix of models. Thursday was set up day, we had come most of the way on the Wednesday so it was just a short run to the NEC and we were there by 9am to find one Cortina already delivered to the hall. A clean and polish and mine was ready for when the other members turned up with the stand dressing which went well and we were all very pleased with the way it looked with it’s “Carry on Cabby” Theme when we had finished.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the show opens to the public and as usual the crowds flocked in with a lot of interest in our cars, we were kept busy talking about our Cortina’s to the show visitors and giving out club membership forms, I hope we get a few new members for our efforts. Our stand backed on to the MK2 Cortina 1600E stand and they were great neighbours we had shared the cost of the back wall with them and it worked very well, you can not beat a back wall to show off the cars. After 3 very tiring and busy days it was all to soon 5-30pm on Sunday night and time to take the stand apart for another year. The 3 other owners were out by 6pm when the doors opened, my own car was put to the side of the hall out of the way as we were staying for another night, I have had too many years struggling in the dark and wet nights on my journey home so a nice 200 mile ride back home on Monday was much more relaxing after a great weekend. Our tired legs were back to normal after a couple of days and the car was cleaned and put away, but it has one more trip to it’s new home in Gretna before it’s well deserved rest over the winter, and after a great time we have had with it this year. Looking forward to 2015 already, I wonder what it will bring!!

Keep it shiny side up
